About PAWS
PAWS is currently celebrating its 35th year of helping animals. PAWS is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting respect for all living things, as well as attempting to reduce the increasing companion animal population.
We are recognized by the IRS as 501(c)(3), not for profit organization; we are chartered in New York State. Contributions are fully deductible to the extent of the law. Every dollar goes directly towards helping the animals. There is no money spent on salaries, rent or professional fund raising.
PAWS has many programs which are helpful in achieving our goals. PAWS operates Humane Education Program to help children to understand the importance of taking responsibility for their pets, including spaying/neutering. PAWS operates a humane education program that is presented to school aged students each year. The program is called “PAWS To Learn” and is offered free to schools, libraries, scouts and other civic groups. The New York State mandated curriculum is presented at an age appropriate level to various grades. PAWS has a low-cost spay/neuter program which enables many families to have their pets altered who would otherwise be unable to do so for financial reasons. This service is also provided for stray animals. Consequently, this reduces the number of unwanted animals that enter our already over burdened and over-populated shelters. Thousands of animals are spayed/neutered each year through our program which greatly reduces the number of animals being born and thus, the number being destroyed. We also have a free spay/neuter program for felines. Other programs also include: Seniors for Seniors and PAWS pet food distribution program. Please see our Programs page for a complete listing of all of our Programs.
We welcome any and all donations. You can make your check payable to PAWS and send to P.O. Box 861, Hicksville, New York 11802-0861. Or go to our Donations page link above.
Please remember that adopting a pet from the shelter means that you have saved a life.
